Midsummer Tea in the Garden.

Our annual open afternoon, as part of the Tring & Wendover Open Gardens weekend. The walled garden is opened to anyone who would like to come; tea and scones are laid out in the common room; and at half past three Joseph and the clerk give a short talk on the lime mortar of the south range.

Entrance is free; a donations box will be by the back gate. Last year ninety-seven visitors came through and we raised £312, almost entirely in coins.

The walled cottage garden on a midsummer Saturday — visitors moving between the raised beds, a tea-table under the pear tree, and the brick of the south range glowing in the sun.
Practicalities

What to expect.

  • When Saturday 20 June 2026, 14.30 to 17.00.
  • Where The walled garden, behind the south range. Enter via the back gate on Akeman Street, signed from the high street.
  • Refreshments Tea, coffee and scones in the common room from 15.00.
  • Talk A short illustrated talk on lime mortar and the south range, in the common room at 15.30. Approximately 20 minutes.

Accessibility

The back gate is a level approach. The garden paths are gravel with one shallow flagstone step at the entrance to the common room. We have one folding wheelchair available on request; please let the clerk know in advance if it would be useful.

There is an accessible WC in the common room. Assistance dogs are very welcome. Parking on Akeman Street is limited; the nearest free car park is the Forge Road car park, a five-minute walk.

What to bring

  • Comfortable shoes for gravel paths.
  • A small amount of cash for the donations box, if you prefer it to a card.
  • Any garden questions you would like Joseph or the clerk to attempt to answer.
Reserve a place

Tell us you are coming.

A reservation is not required. It is helpful so we know how many scones to bake; the parish kitchen plans to within ten visitors.
